RE:RE:RE:RE:Bought Telus, sold Rogers

RE:RE:RE:RE:Bought Telus, sold RogersHey SARGEX__Don't know how things are in the ParksVille area__but here on the Southern
Tip of the Island indeed Spring has sprung over a month ago__so along with all the nice flowers and flowering cherry boulevard trees__of course has come the dandelions and mowing the lawns RUT.

I actually had my heart ReBuilt late last November__so Taking Care of EveryThing will be
no challenge anymore!

So have these markets EVER BEFORE been so Crazy eh !!!!__I certainly have NEVER seen AnyThing even close to WHAT we have seen the Past Year__and I have been in the Markets
since late 1979.

My PortFolio is a LOT more Volatile than the one you have BUT most certainly even you would
have taken a HUGE hit last March eh?__and NO DOUBT you TOO have recovered nicely eh ?

In my case__as of this weekend I have come back 127% from the lows @ end of last March__even had margin calls back then !!!!!__and also am currently up 27% from end of December__with a LOT of this recovery from my very large overweight position in CanWell__which has recently EXPLODED and thus has become my Top Holding__followed
by Telus, Western Forest, TransAlta Preferreds, Chemtrade and TransCanada Pipe.

But SARGE__I really think that YOU Have to HAVE some ATCO at least eh !!!!!__as they have
been around for ForEver__compared to recent UpStarts like CPX

Long time, no hear. How's things on the Island these days?

That's a good observation on no Atco or TransAlta and on selling Parkland. I actually did some consulting for TransAlta and didn't like what I saw from the management side. I evaluated Atco, CU, EMA, and FTS and decided on EMA and FTS.

We got out of Parkland as it didn't really fit our 5 sector approach (utils, banks, midstream, telco, REIT) . I was actually a little sad to see it go as we had held since Oct, 2013 but we did do quite well with it (to the tune of $57k profit).

I have indeed soured on Brookfield. They scr*wed us on the BEPC record date, then totally disgusted me with the BPY take-over, and now are p*ssing me off with IPL. We're all out of BEP and BPY but still own some BIP.UN.

To try to get back my Alberta "stripes", we did recently (Aug, 2020) buy a full position in CPX. I had always thought of them as "coal" guys but I saw the good work they've been doing spanning out. Of course, on the Albreat "unpatriotic" side, we did sell Altagas to buy CPX.  :-)

Take her easy and enjoy the great spring that usually comes to the Parksville area

I also TOTALLY AGREE__as I continue to expect that the Merger will NOT get approved by the regulatory and political groups.

Hey SARGEX__I have noted when you often have Posted your total holdings__you never seem to have been in either ATCO or TransAlta__and you have Ditched your Parkland holdings__this
just seems quite Non Patriotic for an Albertan such as you eh ????

I anticipate BIG THINGS for TransAlta with the new CEO and continual Creeping TakeOver by BrookField__which I understand you have also lost your fervour for__but for me it will be very interesting to see what Brookfield ends up doing__especially to the very large holdings I have kept for over a decade now in the Preferreds.

I totally think you made a most excellent move. I've never owned Rogers nor Shaw and have never really liked them. I also think the bid price was way too high.

My wife & I own both BCE and Telus and traditionally have liked BCE more, That has changed recently with a bit of a dislike for Bell Media and for BCE raising their divy when I don't think they should have, coupled wth having an improved view of what Telus is doing with some of their side businesses.

Take her easy

Sold the Rogers shares March 16th at $64, missed the very top of $65 and change, but it has dropped back to nearly $60 so timing was pretty good overall. Made some nice capital appreciation holding them, plus the good dividends. May end up regretting selling them but figured locking in the profits and re-deploying the money into Telus for now makes sense. Will keep an eye on Rogers and see what transpires with this potential purchase. I think the premium offered for Shaw is excessive, and I am concerned with the amount of debt/dilution needed to pull off the purchase AND build out 5G. May turn out to be overly cautious or even completely wrong but I don't think I am giving up much upside at this point. Figure Telus is a better bet over the next 24 months.
