I've been an iTrade customer for several years and I have experieced exceptional customer service, particularly over the last three months.

Yes, you have to stay on hold for quite a while. I've waited upwards of 90 minutes for an agent, but once I get someone they are always courteous, efficient and very willing and able to deliver superior customer service.

With RSP and TFSA season behind us I'm finding hold times have reduced greatly.

I agree they have been slow to respond to e-mails, but I have had a response to every one that I've sent, and I do understand that the phone queue is more important to address.  That is my expectation and I only send e-mails for non-urgent items.
