Short selling in principle can benefit shareholders.

It's a way of keeping management honest....if they want ot beat the shorts, then create shareholders value to increase the buying from various kinds of investors.

The naked shorts sell even without borrowing the shares vs short selling borrows the shares they sell.

The issues of naked shorting have to be addressed by the authorities.
