I have no idea what will or will not happen in this particular instance. However you still couldn't be more wrong . This literally falls under defamation. Defamation is actionable. It is not "illegal" perse, but freedom of expression is not freedom from consequences.

Because the defamation in question was done in writing on a bullboard (permanent record) it falls under libel. When they are back at the office joking about it while elbow deep in a circle jerk, that's slander.
