RE:2 Years LaterAs usual, excellent points Leo. Shareholders should be reminded that Cablelabs is providing the open source code on openwrt.org for Dual Channel. From the openwrt.org website, "OpenWrt is free software, provided AS-IS and without any warranty." Also of note, CableLabs owns the Dual Channel license, and they are a non-prodfit organization.

Hamzeh said 2020 would be a reasonable timeframe to see implementations of the Dual Channel WiFi reach the product ecosystem, noting that the expectation is that existing WiFi access points will be able to support this new capability with a software upgrade. By making it open source, the aim is to provide this to all types of service providers and suppliers. This is just a terrific example of an organization building new technology that no one in the industry asked for and thus far has no interest in using. It's not the first time someone has built something and had no buy in from the people who would actually use it, but it's s always surprising to see it happen. Maybe if it had been done with the Wifi Alliance who actually have wifi companies as members instead of a cable industry collective it would have got some traction. Then again it's s really about the device makers who probably don't t see the need to include more hardware that would only increase their prices.
