Note that my comment is in reponse to Shamhorish's assertion that criticism of the family is unwarranted, and that those who do so are mindless pawns of the media. Shamhorish routinely tries to deflect responsibility for the mess that BBD is/was in from where it belongs; and instead tries to paint the family as victims of bad luck, biased media, outlandish conspiracy theories, and unethical business practices by the competition. This is a load of BS, and I will call it out as such.
Let me tell you a story: There was a little kid at school who wanted to make a name for himself. He decided to steal the big kid's lunch. The big kid caught the little kid stealing his lunch, and beat him up. The big kid beat the little kid up every time he saw him. Finally the little kid said "Hey, stop beating me up. Let's be friends! I'll give you half of MY lunch". The big kid said "OK", took the little kid's lunch and ate it all, then beat the little kid up some more.
Guess who the little kid is.
The board and management of any company have a primary responsibility to stakeholders, and in the case of a controlling shareholder, perhaps even a fiduciary duty. The board and management of BBD failed miserably in shouldering that responsibility.
Also, note that we are talking about the past. This is not intended as a comment on BBD's future prospects.
