RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Electricity requirements for torches answered by PYR CEO Yes Quebec ( Hydro Quebec, HQ, 100% owned by the Prov Gov ), is looking for markets for what is a temporary surplus of green energy. Churchill power goes south to HQ. That is not about to change.
A surplus of green electricity exists 500 kms east of Lab City at Muskrat Falls ( the Lower Churchill). It is just coming on line and it presently has nowhere to go.
This is a repeat of the Churchill Falls 60s/70s story as it was constructed with no marketing agreement in place. That allowed HQ to squeeze the Falls into a corner and get the output at a ridiculously low price, barely above cost of production. The situation created much tension between the provinces of Newfoundland/Labrador and Quebec which still endures today. With that history do not count on power going north from HQ when there is already plenty at Muskrat Falls.
Muskrat Falls has it's own story of cost overruns and delays and no easily accessible markets, other than Lab City.
Expect the construction of 500kms of transmission lines from Muskrat to Lab City. Who will pay for that? The province is already drowning in debt due to the cost overruns. Expect the Federal Gov to get involved through the forthcoming climate plan.
Please note that none of the required construction/investment be "free" or instanteous.
