RE:RE:What another Canadian mining co with Peru assets is saying.. Yeah ok, oil not mining. But I think you have it the wrong way round. It'll be easier for them to mess with mining companies that haven't started production yet, because there's nothing to stop them demanding a higher royalty fee from the outset. PetroTal are already in production so the government would have to break an existing legal agreement if they wanted to extract more royalties from them. Much easier to shaft the newcomers.
I agree that such messing around with the lifeblood of their economy (mining) would be completely crazy, but logical arguments don't necessarily win out against populism. Remember that this is a banana republic where the guy who is most likely to win the leadership contest just got through on a nationalise-the-miners ticket.
Not meaning to be a doom-monger, but I think Tier One and Sombrero investors have good cause to be concerned right now....
