The recession “officially” began in December 2007 with copper priced about $3.00. however, the decline in copper prices didn’t occur for another 6 months after a June 2008 high of $3.83. Then, after its heart-stopping, precipitous drop of over 60% to $1.30 the following December, it took another two years before recovering it’s June 2008 price and another 6 months to make a new high of $4.50.
The chart shows that the decline in copper prices began in the summer of 2008, but the recession was “official” months before.
