I often get called by family and friends when a stock I recommended drops or stays stagnant for a lengthy period of time. Most people pay too much attention to the stock price when they should really be reading their financials/conference calls, etc. I do a lot of research before I purchase a company and it might be on my watch list for a year before I buy shares. When I've done my due diligence I don't pay attention to the stock price anymore but I might buy more shares if necessary. A perfect example of this would be my investment in Acuityads. It was on my radar for a year and I was waiting for them to turn a profit and so I made my first purchase at $1.08 and it was my largest holding at the time. It has dropped by over 50% since its highs in February and people ask me if they should sell now. If you sell it's like cutting off a flower head to a perfectly wonderful growth story. Chasing winners is not a sound strategy and one should pay more attention to the fundamentals. If the story hasn't changed and the company is stronger then you should buy/hold and just forget about the stock price.
