RE:RE:Cabbage

RE:RE:Cabbagethis section is ambigious..  but the scale is significant..  Poly Met went bak into these trash pilings (they were loaded w chrome) and re-mined the tailings and scraped the evaporation ponds that were full and leaking...

1.7 billion pounds of copper were produced, resulting in the generation of waste
rock, tailings impoundments, and evaporation ponds. 400 acres of waste rock placed south of the
pit, 900 acres of contaminated tailings and 300 acres of disposal ponds.

there are no estimates of concentration, of the residual ores in these ponds and waste rok piles..  the mining here stopped in 1977 and ran drom ~~ 1950's (25yrs)

good bet the new operator - w the NDEP blessing is going to take a hard look @ everyting wet/dry on that lot..

the tribes have these sites all thru the west - mine and dump trash..  this is when the started sueing..  here in nevada - they sues over two sites..  rio @ mountain city and anaconda..  the tribes (don't quote me - not shure about anaconda) recieved settlements and monetary awards for the damages..  Rio fought em to the bone... tribes brought in heavy muscle from Stanford

The State of Nevada, with the support of the neighboring Indian
tribe, requested EPA take the lead for the entire site, including the Arimetco orphan share, in
2004.

these suits go bak to the inception of NCU and the problems yearingtoh had in luring in a new junior miner - again my guess..  nobody wanted a dog in the brewing fite
