I'll address line 5 debate as well. Political game.Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan was electecd with help from greens (Not all greens, unions as well. Which is part of the Democratic base), promising to shut down Enbridge line 5.
From a political standpoint, its a great idea. Every Michigan, green, union and republican love their lake. Throw in a little we don't want Canada dirty oil and good ole US nobody tells us what to do and we don't want a Canada company or Canada telling us what to do attitude and you have the political theatre Whitmer and Biden both want. Canada can whisper, but terrified of US trade bullying. Seems bleak eh!!!!! Well not at all. Whitmer, Biden and every democratic politician know that if they increase energy costs, they will be voted out quickly at every level. Soooooo what do they do. Were screwed right???? Grandstand, dig in their heals, talk alot and then let it go to court for years. Whew. The Dallas grid failure on steroids if they shut line 5. They need our energy to survive politically. And they know it.
Am I sure they just won't go green?
Coal fuels the largest share of Michigan’s electricity generation, and 4 of the 10 largest power plants in the state are coal-fired. The state’s industrial sector accounts for about one-tenth of petroleum use. Although the residential sector accounts for only about 7%, Michigan is among the top five states in residential sector petroleum use.68 Almost 1 in 10 Michigan households heat with petroleum products, and nearly 90% of those homes use propane.69 Total consumption of hydrocarbon gas liquids (HGL), including propane, is greater in Michigan than in all but five other states, and Michigan has the largest residential sector HGL consumption in the nation. This is information from eia.
