Great question fordster.  My best guess is that there will be a deal cut.  Rather than let gold float free in the market without a ton of paper transactions holding it down, the BIS will back down on the Basel III rules in some sort of obscure way to make it look like they held firm, put off the change, or outright fold to the pressure.
