60MW project approved by PREBThe Public Service Regulatory Boards Puerto Rico Energy Bureau (PREB) announced today that it has approved a solar energy project that will add a total of 60 megawatts (MW) to the islands power grid. This is an important step in the implementation of Puerto Ricos energy policy. As the company responsible for monitoring and ensuring implementation, we are pleased to announce that the 60 MW additional electrical capacity project brings us 40 percent closer to our goal of generation from renewable sources in or before 2025, said PREB President Edison Avils Deliz. The Xzerta-Tec Solar I project in Hatillo will add 60 MW of capacity at a price of $ 0.099 per kilowatt hour (kWh) with a scale of two percent per year and a cap of $ 0.1216 / kWh. The negotiated price also includes the value of the renewable energy credits. This new price represents a savings of $ 170 million over the term of the contract compared to what the Puerto Rico Electricity Authority originally negotiated with this company in 2012. With this project we are continuing to transform the electrical system with renewable energy sources and assure the consumer a more stable energy price. Puerto Rico can be sure that the office will continue to promote these projects and ensure the well-being of the people, explained Avils Deliz.
