RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Rest of the StoryWhat is really bush league is a previous government that was willing to sacrifice a nice sized economical mine with no adverse environmental impacts. A mine that was supported by junior mining money with numerous small local investors many of whom are residents of the province and many of whom have passed on since the 2012 decision; That same government had hitched their wagon to LNG with the proposed pipeline of the day supposedly going to the now defunct project in Prince Rupert. I suspect that since LBN leadership at the time indicated that they would be opposed to that pipeline if the province authorized BKM - the government seemed to be very willing to sacrifice a little mine for the greater good that they envisioned. At the same time the personnel in the MoE Skeena office seemed to be very anti-development and it also seems that some interesting steps were taken by that office to hire consultants that would be anti-mining to review the project on their behalf. Meanwhile the same government had no probelm approving multiple mines in other areas of the province that were found to have significant adverse environmnetal impacts through the same EAO process. The prime example might be Prosperity with very manifest environmental impacts and very strong native resistance. Other examples would be the lesser known coal mines in northeast BC that were permitted to foreign owned companies some of which would not even be required to employ local workers. These companies were authorized to knock off mountain tops and eliminate endangered caribou populations and to conduct more hazardous underground operations despite poor undertanding of BC laws and arguably poor safety performance. Perhaps the Liberal government of the time truly believed that there was no way that a British Columbian could ever understand the intricacies of underground longwall mining so there was no need to try to hire local - or perhaps they just wanted the foreign investment. They didn't even seem to care if endangered caribou poulations were extripated. Look at their decisions. For example - Roman Coal mine - Destroy entire mountain - remove all caribou habitat. Approve unbelievable plan that 20+ years from now the company will introduce new caribou from some other herd somewhere and these transplants will trhive on the barren waste rock. Estimated cost an unbelievably low $12M - yet only make foreign owned company put up $2M in seed money to establish said caribou restoartion fund in order to receive their permit. If I have any facts wrong please correct me. This is just my amatuer opinion but the previous government may not have been so much pro-business as they were pro-foreign investment. This is my rant on a decade overdue fair decision which I truly hope is coming soon. The main environmental issue with this mine is the future water quality in Morrison lake and the science is very clear. The salmon of Morrion Lake will be aduately protected if the mine goes ahead and addtional enhancements committed to by BKM and approved by DFO will help the population thrive for years to come. This province wants to be a climate leader in electrification and GHG reduction. That can't happen without copper. Good luck to all.
