In a new chapter of Shared History, a traditional space organized by the San Juan Mining Chamber for the media, this Thursday, April 29, the news of the Taguas project was presented, located in the Iglesia department, in the north of the province of San Juan, 25 km from Veladero and Pascua-Lama.
The Taguas overview was in charge of Sergio Palma –President of Minera Piuquenes SA- and Ral lvarez Cifuentes –VP of Exploration of Orvana Minerals-, who listed the different operators that worked in the project with gold and silver mineralization during the last decades, from the beginning with St. Joe Minerals in search of an El Indio-style project, to the work carried out by the South African Gold Fields.
Different models and interpretations over the years with greater or lesser success, Orvana Minerals accesses Taguas in 2019. The publication of a PEA (Preliminary Economic Study) determines an inferred resource of 600,000 oz of gold equivalent, and an open pit operation with the treatment of 12,000 tpd, added to a heap leaching process / Merrill Crowe system.
To date, Orvana Minerals has identified 17 new high probability gold targets using artificial intelligence; at the moment it is finishing a drilling campaign of 5,000 meters, with an investment of US $ 3 million. The objective of these infill drilling is to improve the quality of the resource, to elevate it to the category of measured and indicated. Orvana's ultimate goal is to advance baseline studies in order to reach Pre-Feasibility in 2023.
