RE:Globe & Mail
RE:Globe & MailAt the present time, FCEV technology is basically limited to cars. No commercially available Class 8 Heavy Duty trucks using FCEV. It would alleviate the need for free standing charging stations but would not alleviate the need for environmentally unfriendly production and disposal of batteries and the mining of the minerals needed to make them work. Westport Fuel Systems has an existing HPDI 2.0 fuel injection system using RNG/natural gas that is presently available in Europe with the VOLVO FH LNG truck. Sales are becoming a progressively higher percentage of these trucks in Europe. Wesport is now developing an HPDI 2.0 system that will use hydrogen as the fuel. The Green Hydrogen can be produced on site with the HyGEAR system. RNG can be stored and transported in existing infrastructure used with natural gas. The synergy of Xebec Adsorption and Westport Fuel Systems will revelutionize the Class 8 Heavy Duty Truck industry. Replacement of diesel as a fuel, using existing Internal Combustion Engines using HPDI 2.0 to convert to RNG and Green Hydrogen as fuel, using existing maintenance, repair, and replacment of Internal Combustion Engines, no need for a new infrastructure for electric charging stations, battery production and disposal, and mining of lithium to make the batteries work. No drilling or fracking to produce fossil natural gas. Use of Biostream for waste to energy transformation utilizing an endless waste stream to produce RNG and use the solid part of the process for organic fertilizer and soil builder. On site HyGEAR would produce Green Hydrogen from RNG without the need for massive new infrastrucuture to store and transport Green Hydrogen from wind/solar/hydro farms. It's not Rocket Science.
