I was wondering this too. Their business model is AI and big data. Acquiring an explorer co doesn't really seem like a fit. There are definitely synergies, but it seems to detract from their main focus. Such an acquasition would seem better placed in a subsidiary or sister co.
Definitely a possibilitty, but still seems a bit weird to me.

If there is a company with software or talent that they are after, that would make more sense to me.

OR.... they could just be expanding operations I suppose.
