RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:New Pellet Plant That is why hydrogen is currently not used now but natural gas. In the FUTURE when the hydrogen economy is developed prices will be cheaper. Just like Green electricity, was expensive at first but costs have shrunk over the years as technology gets better and scaled up.
Small scale Hydrogen will be used first for vehicles and other small appicaltions first..
Hydrogen will be imporant as the earh is too small for the current population.

"Hydrogen-based steelmaking would create double- or triple-digit cost increases per ton of steel produced, according to a study that researchers at Columbia University published March 9. While this cost would be far lower than the negative hit companies could take under a government mandate such as a carbon price, such a cost is currently unavoidable." The Decsion to use Natural Gas is more likely that the electricy there is producced from Coal and natural gas. So there would be a loss in effieciency the converting steps. Also for the large plant there may not be enough electricty available for the heat requirements.
If you do not believe the CEO that the plant is built for the future thats your opinion.
Using natural gas now is an easy conversion to Hydrogen which is gaining momentum.
