All the top vaccines are (give or take a couple of points) 95% effective in preventing infection by Covid 19.
Vaccines (especially Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca) are greater than 99% effective in preventing severe cases or hospitalization.
However, achieving herd immunity requires vaccination of 95% of the population. In other words, when roughly 10% of Canadians and 20% of Americans (including 30% of all Republicans) turn down the opportunity to get free vaccinations, they're greatly increasing the chances that my children or the many people I know older than 65 will get Covid19.
