End of UK lockdown to be postponed UK prime minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce a four-week delay to the lifting of coronavirus restrictions in England. The BBC reported on 14 June that senior UK government ministers have signed off on the decision and Johnson is expected to confirm the delay at a news conference at 6pm UK time on 14 June. Mark Woolhouse at the University of Edinburgh said the delay “would be justified”. In a statement, Woolhouse said: “The arrival of the delta variant has changed the assessment of the risks of re-opening: it is more transmissible, causes more severe disease and the vaccines are less effective against it.”
