Reflections

ReflectionsIn the final analysis BC Hydro has to purchase the electricity. I'm not in the loop regarding IPP's but this link was useful: Independent projects history & maps (bchydro.com)

This wind project is complex because it has to bring many things together, approval from everyone and has to be economically viable. From various literature, it has the potential to grow to well over 2000MW. Some say up to 5000MW is possible in the region.

I noticed talk about possible cancellation of some small IPP contracts from the past, due to the high cost of procuring electricity. Maybe these can be accommodated with this Hectate project with some form of participation. Offshore could be the answer for BC Hydro's parameters. But what about the other IPP's, especially with First Nations who don't have access to such a world class wind resource.

I read that wave technology, floating turbines and solar are potential for the future, but cost and reliability issues would put these outside BC Hydro's current procurement parameters.
