RE:MiscellaneousWell, things still seem a bit slow here, so I guess I will indulge myself with more odds and sods. As I said, at one time, in my distant youth Virginiatown had a very beautiful beach and on my reading of the Golden Candle 43-101 it appears to me that the Chesterville Mine (east of Kerr Addison and now part of Golden Candle's holdings) dumped tailings into the Eastern arm of Larder Lake with no containment whatsoever. These tailings silted over Virginiatown's once beautiful beach. It also appears to me (do your own research) that Golden Candle's present orebody (six million ounces) surrounds this eastern arm of Larder Lake and that further Golden Candle has some legacy rights to mine this material. I am not sure if these legacy rights extend to dumping tailings into Larder Lake which is, since it is quite a large lake, still largely uncontaminated. And as a testament to the one-time popularity of this beach I will tell this story: In the early 1960's it was said that the CIA was on Virginiatown's beach looking for people to participate in the upcomng invasion of Cuba (i.e. the Bay of Pigs invasion). A couple of chaps that were (allegedly) approached reported this to Kirkland Lake's newspaper the "Northern Daily News" who published it. The thinking of these chaps apparently was that this should be exposed lest some foolish person would take the CIA up on this offer.
