pasted from article on shortage of drillers.....interesting. Drilling services are running near capacity in Australia and Canada as minerals exploration recovers, UBS says, following recent calls with Boart Longyear and DDH1. The companies talked of a significant improvement in demand for drillers and rigs which is "clearly being supported by the strength in commodity prices (i.e. gold/copper), elevated capital raisings, as well as the need for miners to replace depleted reserves," UBS says. Still, meeting rising demand is challenging because of border closures and travel restrictions, says the bank. In regions such as Australia--which has stringent border controls in place--there's a shortage of drillers and rigs, even though in South America and Asia there's better availability due to pandemic-related delays and disruptions to exploration projects, UBS says.
