RE:RE:RE:RE:Hey Turntotheright or Tennesee oil..Would love your opinions The 2 things that stood out from the release was first and foremost the interval over which hydrocarbon shows were found - 343m is a very large interval, and we aren't even at TD. The other thing is that there is rig maintenance causing a bit of a delay, it's a bit of a risk to the well bore integrity the longer they aren't drilling, but I can't see it being too big of a problem and the risk can be mitigated.
the hydrocarbon shows can be economically and commercially viable, and I would guess a good chunk will be, but likely not the entirety of all the intervals. It's difficult to know the viability without knowing the source of the hydrocarbon indications (logs, cuttings, cores, mud logs). I would guess that logs won't be run until TD, it would be a huge problem if they logged now and got a tool stuck down hole, and the wellbore would need to be sidetracked or abandoned. And cased hole logging is definitely not as effective as open hole logs.
Drill string tests are Ok, but there is a reason they are hardly used anymore (at least in Alberta). DST's aren't always indicative of the true production potential and do not allow for completions to be completed prior to flowing. An advantage to DST's is that they can be run over multiple intervals in the same wellbore but the better alternative is exactly why I have been talking about appraisal wells. Ebenizer3's comment is also very valid, running multiple DST's are time consuming, and may not produce results that are in fact indicative of the production potential of the formations.
After the exploration wells and seismic have been completed, I am guessing that RECO will move onto drilling appraisal wells, targeting different potential production zones to correlate the hydrocarbon shows to commercial viability. Drilling an appraisal well also allows for completions to be properly implemented. Completions is more than fracing and can include barefoot completions, gravel packs, (and in the case of carbonates) acid jobs to stimulate the formation. RECO will likely start to get a very good idea of the production capabilities of the different zones once appraisal wells are flowed. But to choose appropriate appraisal well locations and formation targets, the exploration and seismic programs need to be completed.
