Marvell Delivers the Highest Performance Mixed-Signal System-on-Chip Solution Available on the Market Today
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 5, 2001--Marvell (Nasdaq:MRVL - news), a technology leader in the development of extreme broadband communications solutions, announced the highest performance mixed-signal system-on-chip (SOC) solution available on the market today. With its 0.18-micron CMOS 88i5220 SOC, operating at an industry-leading clock rate of 750 MHz, Marvell has established itself as the undisputed technology and market leader in SOC electronics.
The 88i5220, the third offering in Marvell's SOC platform, utilizes the Company's expertise in DSP-based mixed-signal processing technology to provide, on a single chip, hard disk drive functions that just one year ago required up to four separate components. The 88i5220 SOC platform integrates Marvell's high-speed 88C5200 read channel physical layer device, its state-of-the-art Ultra ATA/100-compliant hard disk controller (HDC) and two microprocessors.
``Marvell's SOC platform is an example of the type of leading-edge integrated electronics solution that OEMs are demanding for their next-generation products,'' said Xavier Pucel, Semiconductor Research Program Director for IDC. ``Those semiconductor vendors with cutting-edge read channel technology will experience the most success in the high-performance data storage SOC market, which is anticipated to reach $2.2 billion in 2004.''
