RE:Kitco

RE:KitcoSome folks feel POG will break out because of the adoption of Basel III in the U. S. as of July 1.  Physical Gold becomes a Tier One asset for banks that does not require any offsetting capital reserves.  So the idea is that banks will want physical gold and will drive the price up because of demand.

At the same time, paper Gold loses status and remains an asset that must be reserved for.  So the paper Gold market in theory is much smaller going forward.  Now that could mean it's even easier to manipulate, or it could mean that it's not worth manipulating any longer.

The change also could mean that banks don't go after physical gold since it's a pain to move and store.  Maybe the banks go after other Tier One assets instead.  The huge increases in Reverse Repo activity recently (up toward $1 Trillion per night) could be a clue that banks would rather just take the Fed's 5 basis points and be satisfied.  Or maybe they just went to the sidelines for a week until they figure out their next best scam.

Bottom line, for me it's an unknown as to whether gold will move up this week.  Thursday and Friday's action seemed positive since Euro countries came into Basel III as of June 28.  But the U. K. does not come in until January 1, 2022, and that's where the big paper is.
