What you said is true as per the rule of 72.
What you didn't say, is that the market value of the shares will likely more than double. I know that you mentioned that you are only interested in dividends, but my investing philosophy to to focus on total returns. Otherwise you end up with a portfolio of BCE type holdings that provide a good income but deliver minimal capital growth.
If you don't build capital growth into your investment goals, inflation will eat away at your returns.
