Both Moderna and Pfizer-Biotech have submitted patents for their vaccines, and it's very likely they both will get it. You can't have a double patent, they use the same MRNA function to trigger the immune system to act and fight viruses. mRNA vaccines are used to fight other diseases as well.
Again, there is a patent on Moderna, one on Pfizer. Different product, different paterns, different companies.
