DOUBLEVIEW GOLD CORP UPDATE:
After years of Doubleview failing to adhere to the Tahltan Nation’s engagement framework, the Tahltan Central Government made the decision to publicly oppose Doubleview’s ongoing exploration work within Tahltan Territory. Immediately following this decision, senior leadership within Doubleview contacted the TCG to apologize for the Company’s past approach and to offer to take whatever steps were necessary to begin repairing Doubleview’s relationship with the Tahltan Nation.
The Tahltan Nation has consistently been open to mineral exploration within Tahtlan Territory provided that it is done in a manner that is consistent with Tahltan values and respects the Tahltan Nation’s legal authority. After a series of further discussions, the TCG and Doubleview came to an understanding on the steps that Doubleview could take to begin to make amends for the Company’s past conduct and begin to engage the Tahltan Nation in a more respectful way. These commitments are set out in the Communications and Engagement Agreement entered into on July 9, 2021.
Although this shift in Doubleview’s approach is welcomed by the Tahltan Nation, it does not mean that the Tahltan Nation will support Doubleview’s continued work within Tahltan Territory or any related project development that may occur in the future. The Agreement simply provides an opportunity for Doubleview to learn more about the Tahltan Nation and to engage with the TCG and its members in a respectful manner. This will also help the TCG better understand the impacts of Doubleview’s exploration activities and make informed decisions regarding those impacts when appropriate.
While Doubleview’s past approach to engagement with the Tahltan Nation is regretful, the Company has acknowledged and apologized for those wrongs and has taken meaningful steps towards improving its relationship with the Tahltan Nation. The TCG is optimistic that those efforts will continue but stands ready to defend the Tahltan Nation’s interests if needed
