The forest fire situation isn’t changing much in the Red Lake District.
In their update this afternoon, the Municipality of Red lake says based on information to date an evacuation remains likely and residents are asked to be ready should an evacuation be called.
Red Lake Fire 77 remains about 20 kilometres west of Madsen and Starratt-Olsen, with little change overnight to the burn areas on the east side of the fire.
The winds are gusting from the Southwest and are currently blowing the fire in a northeasterly direction today.
MNRF crews are working diligently at creating break lines on the eastern side of Fire 77.
As previously reported, Red Lake Fire 16 has joined with other previously identified fires and is now 120, 000 hectares in size.
That fire is still estimated to grow and will likely at some point join with Fire 77.
There are currently 24 active fires in the Red Lake region consuming 233,000 hectares.
There is still no rain in the immediate forecast and conditions remain extreme.
The Municipality says they continue to work with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and community partners.
Crews from Quebec, Wisconsin and Mexico are arriving and will be sent to various locations across the district to help in the fight against some 96 active wildfires.
If daily conditions should change and or worsen, the Municipality and CKDR will provide further information outside of our daily 3pm updates.
