jazzykazz - (7/20/2021 11:33:55 AM) Hydrogen and Plasma Is it just me, or are Plasma and Hydrogen buddies?? ...they keep bumping into each other. I’m no scientist or engineer, just an excited Pyro-sleuth on the prowl. There appears (to me), to be an overlapping of terms being used by mining companies to describe advancements in sustainability and GHG reduction in iron ore and steel making. Terms like ‘electrification’ and ‘hydrogen’.
There are research papers out there about the relationship between plasma and hydrogen gas... here’s one to look at: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11666-020-01134-2
The LKAB experiment was a research opportunity where hydrogen wasn’t used as the plasma gas ...but hydrogen was recommended in the ‘conclusion / new concepts’ section of the report (pages 64 & 65). Here’s a link to the LKAB findings: https://odr.chalmers.se/bitstream/20.500.12380/256741/1/256741.pdf
I also noticed something during the last weeks Q&A... here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxJwSSdA2yU
At the 10:30 mark, a question is asked about about using hydrogen with the plasma torches, at which Peter replies ‘no’... but then, seconds later says ‘we’re trying it right now, by the way’.... the follow up question about the new plant in Spain is also quite telling.
Rodayna also recently replied to an Agoracom question regarding the electrification and hydrogen possibilities in steel making.
So, if you're like me and felt that plasma and hydrogen were two separate green alternatives to fossil fuels, then it appears the two may be joined at the hip.
Exciting times!!
