BB you are the smartest! BARRICK may disagree!mining company behaving badly in a foreign host country. (There are many instances of this sort of behaviour by some of our major miners in a number of 3rd world/emerging economy countries).
I previously submitted a couple of posts regarding this matter some time back, athough I can't remember exactly when.
In Barrick's case, their huge Porgera Mine would dump their tailings directly into the ocean, and devasted the fishing industry in the region, as well as low lying farmlands and streams. Their "security" forces also beat up, raped, and murdered members of the local community. That's a few of the problems that resulted in PNG's reaction.
Barrick are now under new leadership, and appear to have satisfied PNG that they will be a better steward of their environmental/social/community responsibilities.
