RE: And what Grade 5 ESL student is writing these comical NR's?I have to admit, I seldom use spell check or anything esle just too lazy. That said the section that you posted is actually well written from a technical standpoint. Needless to say you can use software to edit your releases but something that might be technically correct may make no sense which is the case here.
So I ran the section posted through my software and here is what it came up with.
1. Correctness - Very Good
2. Clarity - Very Good
3. Engagement - Very Engaging
4. Delivery - Right
I spent some time editing masters papers using this software scores went from grade level 10 to grade levels of 16-20. Interestly enough so did their marks which went from 60's to average of over 85. Reason being they use the same software at the Universities. For a little bit of humour the one student I worked with had their papers marked by a Chinese Professor and his comments as to grammar were astonishing. So I looked through his various e-mails to the student and it seems he forget to run them through the software. The guy could not spell and new absolutely nothing about grammar. In the old days he would never have gotten a degree except for the use of editors or software. So here was another interesting comment from a number of TA's at the University. We all hired an editor for our masters papers. Interestingly enough when you are writing a news release for the general public it is suggested you write at a grade 8 to 10 on purpose to make it understandable.
