If there is a hedging loss, the market just looks at the final earnings number and punishes the stock for making a profit lower than expected.
If there is a hedging gain, the market ignores the portion of the earnings that was due to the hedging gain and punishes the stock for having a portion of earnings that was "not real".
For investors, hedging is a lose-lose proposition.
