diabase1Northstar is concentrating on the proven fact that syenite intrusives ( small stocks) carry substantial amounts of gold and clearly represent strong magnetic lows the majority of the time ( Planet syenite) Syenite carries very little magnetite for starters - mostly quartz and plagioclase.-ie very littlte magnetic response .They are looking for more and have several excellent "clones "( RZ-06) where the syenite stocks have been " spun " out by the Round Lake Batholith. Why change the strategy - where there is one deposit , there are usually more! Northstar has taken this one step further and are now concentrating on the major hydrothermal conduits throughout the region - the major faults ( or shear zones) themselves with significant magnetic lows.(RZ-LC-01). Magnetic destruction usually occurs during the introduction of hydrothermal solutions - what better place to look for gold than the major fault or shear zone systems. This process leads to disseminated mineralization (alteration of magnetite etc.) and creates massive magnetic destruction as well as emplacing gold. ( Interesting to note that massive magnetic destruction clearly lead to the discovery of the Nelligan deposit and ongoing success with drilling by SUP along the same deformational corridor) It is interesting that very little drilling has taken place directly into these deep lows thoughout Catharine twp. This exploration concept is exactly what RTM is about to drill to the south. They also have excellent candidates to test and again there has been little or no drilling directly into deep magnetic lows along the fault and assocaited shear systems - and where syente stocks have been "spun "out by the Round Lake Batholith.
Northstar's exploration concept makes perfect sense . Drilling magnetic lows ( magnetic destruction) is rapidly becoming the " buzzword" in many archean exploration corridors!!!
