Anticipating Post-Mining Reforestation, PT TMS Prepares Thousands of Tree Seeds for Planting

by
PT TMS Environmental Consultant Ir Kasmo (wearing a white helmet) at a plant nursery site to mitigate post-mining environmental impacts.

Tahuna -Pihak Management PT Tambang Mas Sangihe (TMS) is starting to prepare various types of seedlings that will be mined afforestation post-mining. This is done by PT TMS in an effort to reconstruct the post-mining environment later.

PT TMS Environmental Consultant, Ir Kasmo told a number of media crews that of the
various types of tree seedlings provided, the total currently reached 2400 tree seedlings and there were also 432 vines or ground cover plants intended to control post-mining soil erosion. plastic bag (polybag). All of these types of plants are principally included in the category of pioneer plants (pioneer plants) because their designation as a control of soil nutrients and a number of other tree species is very good for reducing soil erosion elements in the post-mining period and the number of tree seeds or their volume is still being reproduced.

"Our party, in this case PT TMS, has also carried out several strategies in the field because judging from the geographical conditions, here it consists of hills and mountains, an alternative approach is taken towards environmental management at least the presence of TMS will have an impact on the surrounding environment but with these various efforts We will try to minimize the impact that will occur according to an environmental pattern approach,” said Kasmo.

On the other hand, Kasmo also invites all communities to jointly protect the land and water environment so that we can protect our nature as a form of shared responsibility.

"We invite elements of the community whose land will be included in the TMS operational area so that together we take care of the land and water because the name of the environment is our shared responsibility, so that the presence of PT TMS will be able to bring positive progress to the Sangihe community," explained Kasmo while adding
that it is not true what is reported by certain parties/groups if PT TMS operates later then the forest and land will be damaged, water sources will be disturbed. In principle, PT TMS' environmental processing and monitoring activities will be controlled by laws and regulations. And every activity has standards, especially in environmental processing and monitoring activities from the government.
The plant nursery area itself is in the backyard of PT TMS Basecamp which is located in Bentung Village, South Tabukan District. Where various types of tree seeds including Sengon tree seeds, ketwpang tree seeds, Dingkalreng trees, mangrove trees and even Rumbia trees are also prepared.
