RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:We need better information on competition I understand your perspective, so let me add a few other thoughts to how I look at this:
1) Several chains have already moved away from plastic bags, or are about to do so. Freshco eliminated them altogether, other stores in my area are now offering paper over plastic, and have let it be known that they will eliminate the plastic option when inventory is used up
2) A lot of companies have a loss leader to generate cash flow - that's what I meant by the bags and bottles being commoditized - they sell huge volume for little margin. I'm sure the larger companies are generating some small amount of gross profit from bags, but if GDNP were to get into it I doubt they could get the volume necessary to get there. It's just way too competitive.
So, I agree with you - it's not that no one is selling them without profit, but those that are making profit do so with massive volumes, with low margins, and that is a huge hurdle to leap.
I prefer GDNP focus on higher margin, less commoditized products.

See this is where I see gap in your argument. No one would sell these if you couldn't profit on them. Having these bags for sale that everyone wants and uses would bring in new customers to buy their other stuff.
