Peter Lightfoot and KoBold Metals

Peter Lightfoot and KoBold Metals     Interesting to note that the geoscientist behind the recent buy-in of KoBold Metals to the Disko-Nuusuaq project in Greenland is none other than our own Peter Lightfoot. The Disko project is being compared to Norilsk based on work carried out by Lightfoot there in the 1990s while working for Falconbridge. Kobold’s current commitment is modest; $3 mm for surveys by the end of 2022, then $11 mm for drilling by the end of 2024, but KoBolds big-name backers (Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos) can’t help but draw attention to some of Lightfoot’s other, perhaps more immediate projects, namely Smoke Lake nickel in Ontario and Kaukau and Haukiaho palladium deposits in Finland.
