Even if you include the inferred resources of Eagle's nest, Dumont's measured+indicated resources has about 15 times the size of nickel content that Noront has. They simply aren't the same tier of deposits. Eagle's nest is in essence a nickel deposit. There is a bit of gold and copper, palladium, etc. but not really that significant.
Eagle's nest is the only meaningful deposit that Noront has. Everything else is too early in the exploration stage to be developed. If anything, BHP's offer for Noront is validating the asking price of Dumont.
Yes, I agree with you that Dumont is huge.. The grades at Noront are much higher at about 1.68% nickel compared to Dumont .28% but definitely Dumont will eventually out-produce Noront over time as they ramp up production.. Both projects will require huge investment to get into production but in terms of nickel production Dumont would outshine Noront's eagle nest deposit by a large margin....As, I had mentioned, there are so many different aspects and variables that go into what a company like BHP will pay for a nickel deposit..Noront has alot of chromite and other metals like platinum, palladium , gold, copper , zinc etc.. and then you have the much higher grades of nickel at Noront compared to Dumont....Who knows how much Waterton will get for the dumont deposit...We'll just have to wait and see...If they get anywhere close to a billion, there will be alot of angry krr investors...
