He's guarding the message itself, not the contents of it. He wants to prevent a recipient from forwarding it on in whole and letting it loose uncontrolled in e-mail land or from copy/pasting it in whole on a bullboard. There shouldn't be a problem sharing the essence of it with other shareholders.
