RE:Comment on LinkedinFirst off, context, context, context. What has been offered for review provides ZERO context as to the writer's intended goal or "message" by writing the text, and provides no indication as to when it was written.
That said, it sounds like the writer just discovered the heavy oil industry yesterday. All the "high-costs problems" he/she states already exist. Dilbit is how heavy oil is shipped today - nothing new there. Transporting the oil - does anyone even need to say anything about how we ship oil overland today? Oil markets fluctuate daily - just when was the text written? Huge amounts of electricity will be needed - again, quite well known and included in the corporate presentation provided by AXE. The presentation shows costs savings even when using current grid pricing. (Do we need to mention the MWatts of renewable power being brought online by Suncor?) Given the apparent lack of knowledge around the current oil industry, I find no reasaon to assume the writer has any knowledge of just how much oil can be produced from a cubic meter of earth underground, and thus, that figure is ignored. (If the stated numbers are true then I wonder how SAGD has been so profitable over the years.)
The writer does not appear to really know what they are talking about. Sounds like nothing more than ignorant bashing. @Saskisnow, a link to the original text would be appreciated so we can get some context and see if what I have said is anything close to accurate.
Does anyone disagree with my comments?
