RE:RE:STAT News opinion piece today
Not a question of "bashing" gojo, but one of corporate strategy. This technology is complex in it's intended effects. Good health policy is based on "best outcomes". Investigations and diagnostics can cause harms. That is why acceptance of this technology will be built on applying it to those with the best risk/benefit profile. The Grail study is attempting to determine that - stratify the populations & identify who benefits the most. That will encourage uptake of the practice within the medical community. Hopefully, taking the Health Clinics approach, they will be testing higher risk populations and achieve the same "best outcomes". The authorship fiasco with Welsh is more about the messy affairs of Dartmouth at the time and NEJM. Not too many untenured asst prof publish in that journal compared to national health policy gurus. The issue of co-authorship is complex and the waters are shark infested. I don't know Dr Welsh, but 40 yrs of clinical practice has allowed me to understand the science, politics, & policy that drives healthcare.
