RE:For the weekend i.e. off topic -- covid related.Off topic and also a steaming load of doodoo. Last time I checked it was the FDA that approves or disapproves drugs not Fauci. Anybody who posts here should know that, but what the hay, it's okay to post any nonsense you like about someone if he's been branded an ideological enemy by the right wing media.
Pandora wrote: When leronlimab gets approval later this year in Brazil, Fauci will have no defense for not approving a safe drug with a 6-year pristine safety profile that potentially improved the mortality by ~90%. On just this one drug, the blood on his hands is hundreds of thousands of lives. But it is clear that he is a talking head—a politician first and doctor second—and that he will likely just make an attempt to save face.
CytoDyn (CYDY), on the other hand, is already receiving orders from the Philippines for leronlimab for treating COVID-19. These small biotech companies are paving the way to success in therapeutics to clean up the vaccine mess and provide patients and doctors with the tools they desperately need.
These two best of breed drugs, Tollovir and leronlimab, represent the complete lifecycle of the virus from infection to the cytokine storm. One of these drugs should have been approved last year and indirectly Fauci’s focus on the vaccine destabilized the approval process, leaving therapeutics to fend for themselves without any government assistance. Vaccine makers were provided money and given special treatment in the clinical trial approval process. Providing people with a therapeutic choice would have been highly desirable, but that was in conflict with the vaccine-for-all policy decisions. There are no approved therapeutics that work other than dexamethasone yet there are many in the pipeline.
Fauci’s End Game
Fauci made a calculated, robotic move and went all in on vaccines. He wanted to redeem himself from the AIDS crisis but instead, his gambit was crumbling all around him. Recently, Fauci has resorted to blaming unvaccinated individuals instead of taking responsibility for his vaccine Hail Mary with no backup plan. While unvaccinated individuals obviously won’t help combat the pandemic, Fauci seems more dedicated to maintaining his image than admitting to a failed strategy and helping promote other solutions for dying patients. Breakthrough infections are Fauci’s undoing because people want to understand how getting sick but not dying is okay. With all the news and excitement about Merck’s Molnupiravir, it's going to be hard for Fauci to stay silent on the topic. He may finally have to resign his position and admit that a vaccine only strategy was a massive gamble with human life. His standard response seems to be that we need to look carefully at the data. That would be a tripling down on the Fauci gambit and a losing move. The efficacy data on Molnupiravir is pretty good no matter how you slice it, but the safety and utility of use is really the issue. Are there better safer options available? For early to moderate Tollvir has the advantage and for severe to critical there is leronlimab. Don’t expect Fauci to endorse anything other than a continuation of the vaccination process. The combination of Molunpiravir, Tollovir, and leronlimab is going to lead to Fauci’s ultimate checkmate and removal. The loss of human life as a result of his failed strategies is mind boggling and it won't take long for the press to turn on him with a death grip.
