RE:RE:RE:Reuters: Canada invokes 1977 pipeline treaty for Line 5I agree and it's not just that winter is coming every year, which it is, it's that every year delayed leaves the straits exposed to a pipeline that is literally run through the water.  Surely a concrete reinforced tunnel dug 100 feet below the strait bed is a much better option.  Lets get some approvals and get this thing done and you can still protest Line 5 if you don't like it afterwards.

Stop delaying the solution to the problem.

It's time to move this to the higher courts and let the media blah blah about it all they want. International arbitration (if it gets so far) will take many years. Unless Biden comes to the realization that the "Winter is coming" every year, US needs oil, and provides authorization for L5 sooner rather than later.

Maybe that is what Tu rdo was thinking about while strolling on the beach in Tofino on the first Truth and Recreation Day on 30 Sept.

Let's hope that this higher level appeal process will resolve this dispute once and for all. And - just like in the case of Line 3 - Jane Fonda and her Stone Age cultural allies can beat their drums and dance around their carbon neutral campfires singing songs about the Great Turtle.

Go Enbridge Go!!!

Canada formally invokes 1977 pipeline treaty with U.S. over Line 5 dispute

CALGARY, Alberta, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Canada on Monday formally invoked a 1977 treaty with the United States to request negotiations over Enbridge Inc's (ENB.TO) Line 5 oil pipeline, which the state of Michigan has ordered to shut down over concerns it could leak into the Great Lakes.

Gordon Giffin, legal counsel for the Canadian government, filed a letter to the federal court dealing with the legal dispute between Enbridge and Michigan, informing the judge of the move.

Canada's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
