RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Fed. Circ. Groans At Idea Of 3rd Apple-WiLan Patent Trial I don't think people realize that the court of appeals decision will likely start by saying the following, the CAFC:
1. Confirms that WiLan's VoLTE patents are valid
2. Apple infringes the WiLan patent
It is a very big deal to have patents found valid and infringed that are foundational to a wireless standard.
That puts any practicing chip of VoLTE that has been sold in the last 8 years covered by these patents.
Anyone that has been litigating with WiLan or were considering litigation (have been put on notice) would have listened to that appeal.
The only question is price. And doing a deal like Motorola did might be a wise choices.
We could see many wireless settlements outside of Apple come forward (TCL, Huawei, LG, Kyocera, HTC, etc)
All I can say is that WiLan's wireless portfolio is certainly worth more than ZERO. And the Semiconductor and memory storage portfolio is certainly worth more than ZERO.
