By your post its clear that you either don't know or understand that when options are exercised the diff. between thhe exercise price and the mkt. price at time of exrcise is considered INCOME and has to be declared in that yr. so by your no's you still havve to deduct the $7.5 M for the diffff. between the mkt. price and exercise price ties the 1. options so actually at the $5.30 sell price he is actually down ( $7..5 M minus the $1.7 M ) approx.. $5.8 M.
He sold off some to have the money for taxes he will be paying on the options and most probably will sell off some more and then keep the rest for when it goes up alot more than where it is presently. Thats were he will make up for the taxes owed.
