RE:RE:Selling NFTs of Nine Historic Magazine Covers Said Kirk MacDonald, President of Media Central Corporation Holdings: “...we do have the confidence that we have novel digital assets that will appeal to NFT buyers and allow them to own a slice of history in our communities.”
So, two weeks after this breathtaking announcement, how are the bids coming along? Still confident, are we? Are the NFT buyers frantically offering seven- or eight-figure sums for Georgia Straight and NOW covers? Five- or six-figures, then? Four figures? Um, maybe not that much.
Eight of the nine properties on the block haven't attracted a single bid yet. However, a 2015 NOW cover featuring the musician Grimes seems to have captivated the public. The current bid is for a princely $782! Take off the 15% commission that goes to the auction house, and Media Central shareholders are rejoicing in what could be a one-time windfall of nearly $666! Special dividend time?
Eat your heart out, Barry Diller! And he calls himself a media mogul!
Of course, anyone could probably work the phones for an afternoon and find a local bakery or a shoe-repair shop that would spend that sum to buy an ad in the next issue of NOW, but Kirk's not really about doing any of that boring stuff. Selling ads is for squares. Kirk's a visionary. And he has the full support of Mr. Manos, who is impressed with people who tell you they are visionaries.
So, it's on we go to the next crackpot get-rich-quick scheme. Ooh-ooh, Mr. Manos. Here's a tip for you: "Plastics."
