Reverse circulation drilling just brings up chips of rock through the drill pipe. This is usually cheaper and initial exploration drilling. To get a better handle on what is really down there "diamond drilling" which refers usually to drilling" core" brings up a cylndrical, intact , "core" of the
actual rock you are drilling through.
