("Orea") (FSE: 3CG) reports that it is aware of media articles which state that the two controlling shareholder companies of Nord Gold plc ("Nordgold"), Orea's joint-venture partner in the Montagne d'Or gold mine development project ("Montagne d'Or") located in French Guiana, France, have filed a claim, under the Russia-France bilateral investment treaty, seeking compensation in the amount of US$4.6 billion under a confidential arbitration process, representing what such shareholders consider is the value of Nordgold's 55.01% share of Montagne d'Or.
According to the media reports, the two companies are owned by the family of Alexei Mordashov, often cited as Russia's wealthiest person.
Orea confirms that it has not been informed of any such claim by Nordgold, and is unable to confirm the accuracy of the aforementioned media articles.
